There are those who truly believe that the war in Syria can escalate into a nuclear confrontation among big powers, if Obama insists on the use of US missiles in retaliation for the gassing of civilians. Let us take a satellite view of what is really happening.
For the Russians and Chinese, the change of Syria or Iran to a pro-American regime is non-negotiable, and the beginning of the end. The issue is not about Assad being an oppressor, not for the Americans, Russians, or Chinese. That is true only for the Syrians themselves. Sadly very few care about the Syrians except themselves.

The same is true for the Islamic world. The dominance of America in these two last vestiges of Islamic power, Syria and Iran, is also non-negotiable. For the Americans, Russians, and Chinese, it is an energy war. For the Arabs, Persians, and Israelis, it is at the same time also a sacred religious war. These are the ingredients for Armageddon, a nuclear confrontation ushering in World War III, the prophecy of prophecies given by dozens of visionaries through the centuries. Are we in the era of Armageddon? In the Apocalypse, Armageddon is defined as the final battle among the most powerful kings.
When Obama made a sudden 180-degree, deferring the missile initiative until he gets US Congress endorsment, cold water was doused momentarily on his knee-jerk brinkmanship. But the danger is not over. We get a few days reprieve until Congress convenes. Many say Obama will do it anyway, with or without a Congress go-signal. But he hesitates because his is alone in his initiative which may blow up on his face. There are massive protests from top to bottom of the military. Only a few men from the White House and the Pentagon want Armageddon.
Now more than ever, we need to pray for peace in Syria, and in the world. We pray for the US, Obama, the Pentagon to change their minds about missiles. We pray for Assad to stop oppression and for the beleaguered Syrians. We pray for Russia, China, Israel, Syria, Iran, Lebanon and the entire Middle East. Most of all, we pray for ourselves and ask forgiveness for our sins, for, as said in Romans, “the wages of sin is death”. We invoke the prayers of all prayers on our keyboards this very moment, the most powerful plea to the Lord, the trilogy of the Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be.
Our Father, who is in heaven, hallowed be Your name, Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us. Do not put us to the test, and deliver us from evil. Amen. Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and in the hour of our death. Amen. Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit. As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

We include here the appeal of Pope Francis I for the same prayer for Syria and world peace. He is worried, that is why he issued a call for a day of fasting and prayer on Sept 7. He is asking us to join him in fast and pray at least 5 hours, from 7 pm-12 midnight (Rome time). Let’s be one in prayer! Please note that the birthday of the Blessed Virgin, courier of the Fatima messages, is the day after, on September 8 – To the ears of God, prayers are louder than war drums. Prelates of the Holy Land expressed their conviction of this, as war looms promising only more blood and destruction for Syria and the Middle East. Thus, the Assembly of the Catholic Ordinaries of the Holy Land is joining the special day of prayer and fasting, announced by Pope Francis for 7 September, with the wish that “every ordinary in his diocese, eparchy or exarchate, every pastor in his parish and with all his parishioners may organize this day as they see fit”. May, with deep conviction, “the chorus of prayers from our lips drown out the cacophony from the drums of war”.
