Panel Discussion:This week has seen the long-standing territorial disputes in the South China Sea heat up to levels yet unseen in recent, with increasing activity by the United States, China, and other parties. With land reclamation, surveillance flights, and often fierce rhetoric, the conflict is posing a challenge to stability in the region.
The disputes center around various islands claimed by multiple parties, and involve legal, economic and strategic issues. No side wants conflict, but the conflict has seemed increasingly intractable in some ways, with no easy options in sight.
So does this mean the region is doomed to dispute these issues without resolution? Or is there a way out of these issues acceptable to all sides? These questions and more on this edition of Today where we talk about the South China Sea disputes.
