As the world turns against the elites, politicians become more elitist

As the world turns against the elites, politicians become more elitist

””
Politicians are a strange breed. A trend seen around the world is that of ordinary men and women rising up against their democratically elected leaders. These leaders are seen to be more interested in their own wealth and power than they are in acting in the best interests of those they were elected to lead. This can be seen in the Brexit vote and the election of Donald Trump as the next president of the United States. And in France, Marine Le Pen has taken a commanding lead in the polls ahead of the presidential election that will be held in April.
Much like Hillary Clinton and the Democrats, the elites, both politicians and their friends in the media, cannot believe what is happening. Their reaction is to simply call those who supported Brexit and Trump, racists, Islamophobes, xenophobic, sexist, etc. If the state of the world was not so serious, this would be totally laughable.
Recent examples of politicians digging their heels in and showing how out of touch with the lowlifes they govern have been seen in Canada in recent days. The Liberal government of Justin Trudeau is in the process of changing the way Canadians vote. The Liberals want to get rid of the first-past-the-post system that has been in place since Confederation. Trudeau and his trained seals will not say exactly what system they want to bring in but it is safe to assume it will be one that will give the Liberals a better chance to govern in perpetuity. We simply cannot have a conservatives like Stephen Harper govern the country for 10 years.
Many Canadians are demanding a referendum so they can have a say in such a major change. But Trudeau is having none of that. On a Montreal radio station on Friday, Trudeau described holding referenda “bad things to happen.” The little spud recalled speaking with former Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi after the Brexit vote. Trudeau told him referenda should not be held because allowing people to vote “gives people a chance to lash out at institutions—and they might.”
Trudeau’s thinking, such as it is, is no different than others on the left. But most progressives such as Clinton and Barack Obama at least have enough intelligence not to come out and say this directly. Trudeau’s love of dictators is well known. He admires China because their dictatorship allows the government to get things done without the pesky necessity of having to get the okay from those democratically elected by the people. And his unyielding love of brutal dictator Fidel Castro is well known throughout the world. The only thing about this that is hard to understand is how so many people who claim to enjoy living in a democracy can still support the wannabe little dictator of Canada.

Being a cabinet minister in the Wynne government means not having to know or care about such mundane matters as business and economics

And then there is Glen Murray, Ontario’s excuse for an environment minister. Last week, Murray went on CBC radio to remind lowly Ontario residents that the new cap-and-trade program will start on Jan. 1. Beginning on New Year’s Day, Ontarians will be paying an additional four cents a litre for gasoline. And as a happy addition, natural gas bills will be going up about five dollars a month. But according to the honourable minister there is absolutely nothing to be worried about.
Murray’s comment to CBC was “It’s not a lot.”
Four cents a litre to this elitist snob is no big deal. That would be a fair statement if gasoline was something people could occasionally buy or not buy and make at home like a Starbucks Coffee. But a lot of people, many of them low-income, are dependent upon their cars regardless of what downtown elitists like Murray think. And unlike the minister, they do not have a government car to drive them around and which is somehow always filled with gas.
Being a cabinet minister in the Wynne government means not having to know or care about such mundane matters as business and economics. All Murray is required to do is feel good about greening the planet. But an increase in fuel prices will raise the transportation costs of food and other goods resulting in those prices rising. In the end, the cost of living will increase because of the government’s cap-and-trade program and will have a dramatic effect on those least likely to afford such increases.

These elitists have no understanding of people who live in rural areas

But statements made Alberta premier Rachel Notley make Murray look like the piker he is which explains why she is a premier while Murray is just an ordinary cabinet minister. Last week Notley had what the Calgary Herald called her “let-them-eat-cake moment” in reference to Marie Antoinette. At a press conference, the premier was asked how Albertans were supposed to cope with higher fuel costs because of her beloved carbon tax. Notley replied the peasants can always buy more fuel efficient vehicles or can walk or take the bus.
Walk or take the bus? She apparently likes to walk. Therefore everyone should walk rather than drive. Notley, like Murray, ignores the economic impact of higher gasoline prices apart from the actual cost of fuel. But both Notley and Murray are totally oblivious that unlike them, not everyone in their respective provinces are downtown latte-sippers.
These elitists have no understanding of people who live in rural areas. It is too far to walk to where they have to go to buy groceries or go back and forth to work. And there is little or no public transportation. They cannot function without cars. These politicians have no idea how most of the unwashed masses live or if they do, they simply do not care.
Hillary Clinton and the Dems are not the only ones having a hard time living in the real world. If politicians like Trudeau, Notley and Murray were capable of understanding exactly what led to Donald J. Trump becoming the 45th president of the United States, they would not utter the absurdities they do.
After Marie Antoinette was told people had no bread to eat and she told them to eat cake, things did not turn out well for her. It is only a matter of time before these politicians realize what their inferior subjects think of them. Canada lags behind the U.S. but hopefully it will only be a matter of time.
