VIDEO: ISIS poses security threat to Philippines on APEC Summit 2015?
MANILA, Philippines - A video which allegedly shows extremist group
Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) posed threats to the Philippines
went viral after the terror attacks in Paris, France on Friday. Manila
is the host of next week's Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
summit.
In the unconfirmed and undated video shared by several Facebook pages on
Saturday, one member of the group named Abu Anas says the security
threat will happen 'soon.'
The message is being addressed to President Aquino, other Filipino leaders and those involved in the killings of their Muslim brothers.
"Nawa ay wag ninyo na isipin na amin ng nakalimutan ang mga ginawa ninyong pang-aabuso, pagmamasaker sa mga kapatid namin na Muslim.
"Kung sa tingin ninyo na amin ng nakalimutan ang aming pagkamuhi, pagkagalit sa inyo ng aming relihiyon. Ang madilim an araw ay paparating na sa inyo.
"Kayo ay matatakot sa paglalakad sa mga daanan at mga kalsada. Kayo ay matatakot sa pagpasok sa mga opisina at mga trabaho. Kayo ay matatakot at mangangamba kahit nasa loob ng bahay. Amin kayong tatakutin at iteterrorize hanggang sa inyong pagtulog at panaginip. Amin kayong papatayin at tatalunin.
"Kami ay pupunta sa inyo na may dalang suicide bombs sa aming mga katawan. Ang pagmamahal namin sa kamatayan ay mas sobra pa kesa sa pagmamahal ninyo sa inyong mga buhay. Ito ay magaganap na balang araw at malapit na ito," the man in the viral video said.
Three masked members of the group armed with guns with ISIS logo in the background are observed in the 2-minute video.
Who is ISIS?
The The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) known globally as Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a a Wahhabi/Salafi jihadist extremist militant group and self-proclaimed Islamic state and caliphate, which is led by and mainly composed of Sunni Arabs from Iraq and Syria.
As of March 2015, it has control over territory occupied by 10 million people in Iraq and Syria, and has nominal control over small areas of Libya, Nigeria and Afghanistan.
The group also operates and has affiliations in other parts of the world, including North Africa and South Asia.
In July 2014, Abu Sayyaf leader Isnilon Totoni Hapilon and some masked men swore loyalty to al-Baghdadi in a video, giving ISIL a presence in the Philippines.
On Saturday, the Islamic group has claimed responsibility for the 'act of war' assault of gunmen and bombers that killed 153 people in Paris districts (Read: At least 153 dead in Paris attacks on Friday the 13th).
Why Filipinos should worry about ISIS threat?
Security analyst Professor Rommel Banlaoi told ABS-CBN News that the Philippine government as well as all citizens should be vigilant of the threats from the terrorist organization ISIS, considering its presence in the country and its spreading global acts.
“We should not be complacent about the threat posed by ISIS because right now, we monitored at least six self-proclaimed ISIS followers in the Philippines. And if you will review all the videos of the Abu Sayyaf Group, they are displaying the black flag of ISIS, so they are bandwagoning on the popularity, the global popularity of ISIS now,” Banlaoi said.
Security for APEC Summit doubled than papal visit
Reports said that Philippines is spending P9.8 billion for the year-long APEC meetings that will culminate next week. Security measures are being doubled as compared to papal visit in January this year.
The government is taking all threats seriously given that leaders from the 21 member economies will be in Manila for several days.

"Security is really difficult you have to be 100 percent prepared for an eventuality that is only one percent propable. But we cannot put it aside, especially with those economies or those countries that we of as traditionally having high security threats," Ambassador Marciano Paynor Jr., director general of the APEC 2015 National Organizing Committee told CNN Philippines.
