Hoax EQ Prediction - And Worse

What's In A Hoax?

First Up - The Real Thing:

A series of strong earthquakes has struck China's western Qinghai province. Officials say at least 400 people have been killed, and 10,000 others have been injured. It is not known how many are still buried.

The earthquake, measured at magnitude 6.9, hit the remote county of Yushu near the Tibetan border, in the south of mountainous Qinghai.

Meanwhile, in California, "Rumors are flying about a big earthquake that's going to happen any moment, but officials are working to stamp down what they're calling "unofficial and misleading predictions" making the rounds in text messages."

Funny thing is, while officials are trying to "stamp down" the rumor - they're also saying such an earthquake could happen at any moment. They also, naturally, encourage people to be prepared - so some folks have a bottle of water next to their cell phone in their purse....

And millions just keep living on fault lines, waiting for the Big One...



REYKJAVIK, Iceland
— "A volcano under a glacier in Iceland erupted Wednesday for the second time in less than a month, melting ice, shooting smoke and steam into the air, closing a major road and forcing hundreds of people to flee rising flood waters.

"Authorities evacuated 800 residents from around the Eyjafjallajokull glacier as rivers rose by up to 10 feet (3 meters).

"Emergency officials and scientists said the eruption under the ice cap was 10 to 20 times more powerful than one last month, and carried a much greater risk of widespread flooding."

There's real concern that another nearby volcano could also erupt - and between them they'd cause much more serious flooding, and disrupt air traffic between Europe and the US.

Hurricane Forecasts

Between one and four hurricanes may hit the U.S. coast this year, according to a forecast from a team at University College London in the United Kingdom.

They expect the Atlantic Hurricane Season to be 60 percent more active than the long-term average.

The group now forecasts around 16 named storms, nine hurricanes and four major Category 3 hurricanes with winds of 111 mph to 130 mph.

Nine hurricanes is one more than the eight predicted last week by the Colorado State University forecast team, which also said it foresees a higher than normal hurricane season.

"OMG! HUGE PROMINENCE:" One of the biggest prominences in years erupted from the sun's northwestern limb April 13. The massive plasma-filled structure rose up and burst during a ~2 hour period around 0900 UT on April 13th. Observers in Europe had a great view: "The eruption hurled a bright coronal mass ejection (CME, movie) into space.

"The expanding cloud could deliver a glancing blow to Earth's magnetic field around April 15th. NOAA forecasters estimate a 35% chance of polar geomagnetic activity when the CME arrives."

What they're not saying out loud is that these CME's have the potential to really disrupt your electrical stuff...and since they now see more such activity (increasing in strength) in the next couple of years, then there is every likelihood that some very serious blackouts and disruptions will occur. Get candles.

So there you have it for this edition ...earthquakes, deaths, volcanic eruptions continuing, hurricanes on the way, and your toaster on the fritz.
